The unstable need to place meaning on every little thing
The unstable seek to find meaning in everything
Including you
Prove to me why you deserve to be and show me why you think you’re better than me
To feel you have to explain yourself
Give reasons to explain your season
Hand over excuses for the way you do or see
Imagine getting angry with people minding their business
This chokehold of ‘I can’t let you go until you explain it to me’
Set it free so you can be the very thing that you see all around
In the grey
Where most struggle to breathe, you’re thriving
The blacksheep saying a healthy fuck you to the (w)hole idea of formality
I tell you, if they hate you, there’s freedom and no more left to do
That moment when you realise there is no answer
Neither good, nor bad
Wrong or right
And stop trying to be a hero
Don’t no one need that much saving!
Not seeking the adoration or admiration of people you wouldn’t listen to
If they can’t commodify or capitalise on you
They’ll try to justify their ridicule of you
Then they’ll penalise the very thing that makes you, you
All the while telling you you need to do more to be the best version of you
Never letting up, never room to breathe
Spending just enough of the energy you’ve tried to keep
Done with the attention, seeking what’s real and beautiful
The moment just before dawn, where twilight resides
That place where your angels preside
And you find the fight within you to take up space
No need to find excuses
In the grey
This is your safe place, baby
You’ll learn soon enough this lesson
Some things just ‘are’
Forever doing away with the dilemmas
Explaining to the group
Save yourself the trouble
Dance like the sun is your spotlight
Laugh like you just discovered this crazy act
A nod to the greyest of greys, their friends and their lovers.
